Zavitz, 85, a resident of Goldendale, died at the Oregon Veterans’ Home on Sunday, May 23, 2004. He was born July 8, 1918, in Lambs, Mich., the fourth of six children to William and Ruth (Brown) Zavitz. He was raised in Michigan and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the service, he lived in Florida and worked for the Florida State Highway Department as a highway construction administrator. In 1984, he and his wife moved to Goldendale to be near her family. He is survived by his wife Ethel Mae Zavitz, Goldendale; three children, Larry Zavitz; Sondra Giddons and Barbara Woods; two step-daughters, Darlene P. Krusow, Goldendale; and Linda Lang, Aims, Iowa; two sisters, Tillie and Ardy. No public services will be held. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Smith Callaway Chapel in care of arrangements.
