     Anthony “Tony” Frank Zak, 85, a resident of The Dalles, formerly of 
Tonasket, Wash., died at the local hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005.
     He was born May 26, 1920, in Goldstone, Mont., to Edward and Anna (Kolek) 
Zak. He grew up and attended school in Woodburn and worked on the family farm 
until World War II. He served in the Army infantry in the Pacific then 
returned to Oregon after the service.
     He worked a number of jobs over the years as a truck driver, candy maker; 
his favorite work was in the timber industry and he retired after 20 years as 
a machinist for Todd Shipyards of Seattle. He was basically a self-taught 
skilled worker. 
     He was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and many other 
outdoor activities.
     He is survived by his daughter, Susan M. Stults, The Dalles; his son, 
Edward L. Zak, Poulsbo, Wash.; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, 
his sisters and brothers, Lillian Avalon, Portland; Louie Zak, John Day; Frank 
Zak, Marysville, Calif.; and Annie Bonge, San Antonio, Texas; 22 nieces and 
nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 
siblings, Rosie, Martha, Johnnie, Mary and Josie.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at 
The Dalles St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Unger as celebrant. 
Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association, 1425 NE Irving 
#100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.
