Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 22, 2006, 9:36 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, Sepetember 15, 1995 Charles Eugene Woods, 70, Dufur, died at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles on Sept. 6, 1995. He was born Oct. 14, 1924 in Linton, N.D., the ninth of 10 children to Glenn and Birdie Ann (Lee) Woods. He grew up in Linton then served in the US Navy from June 1943 to Jan. 1947. After the service, he worked for a short time in Port Angeles, Wash., then returned to North Dakota. He married Alicia Golda Sandwick in Bismark, N.D. on March 1, 1950. They moved to Montana to work ranches from July 1950 to 1956, then returned to North Dakota to ranch until 1966. The Woods moved west and he worked power line construcction until 1972, when he became a lineman for BPA until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Methodist Church, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #125, Dufur Lions Club, National Hereford Association, American Legion, former Boy Scout, 4-H and Farmer Union youth group leader. He was also an avid fan of Dufur Rangers and Harlowton Engineers High School sports. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and loved horses. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Woods of Dufur; four children and their spouses: Charlotte and John Hall of Harlowton, Mont., Lee and Sam Woods of Nashua, Mont., Glenda and Jim Hanna and Wesley and Carol Woods, all of Dufur; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Fred Woods of Gresham and Bob Woods of Troutdale; five sisters, Elen Tuttle and Bese Kautz, both of Linton, N.D., Ila Gunensohn of Bismark, N.D., Pat Kinally of Las Vegas, Nev. and Jane Conn of Gillette, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl and Ralph. Services were held at Spencer Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Asa Jenson officiating. Memorials: Dufur High School Athletics or Jamestown Crippled Children's Home, sent in care of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
