She was born Dec. 2, 1927 in East Alton, Ill., the seventh of 11 children to Vernon and Viola (Helton) Crider. She grew up in East Alton and married Marquis H. Wollenweber in Wood River, Ill., on Nov. 2, 1946. They moved to Reedsport in 1953 and settled in The Dalles during the winter of 1953-54. Mr. Wollenweber died in November 1994. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and cooking, as well as playing cards and bingo. She was active in her community, spending many hours volunteering at the Red Cross and at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, and served for many years as a scorekeeper for Western Little League baseball. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and also the Women’s Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia A. Piehl, of The Dalles; sisters Essie Elmore of The Dalles, Evelyn Chinault of East Alton, Ill., Mildred Skinner of Alton, Ill., and Alma Blackwood of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are grandchildren Marquis and Diana Piehl of The Dalles, great- grandchildren Nicole Piehl, Victoria and Eric Marines, great-great-grandson Anthony Nesta, and numerous nieces and nephews including Susan Elmore of The Dalles and Michael Elmore of Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers Floyd, Charles, James and Ellsworth, and by sisters Dorothy and Mary. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at the I.O.O.F. Threemile Cemetery, formerly Parklawn, with Pastor Asa Jensen presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, Ore., 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
