Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 3, 2006, 1:10 am The Dalles Chronicle, May 23, 2006 Ruth Cecilia Willett, 84, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home Saturday, May 20, 2006. She was born on Oct. 7, 1921 in Dufur, to Norman John Hastings and Helen Cecelia (Tobie) Hastings, the second of five children. She graduated from Dufur High School in 1940, and she lived in Wasco County most of her life. She married Jesse R. Willett on March 9, 1941 in Dufur. She was a homemaker, who loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of First Christian Church in The Dalles, and a charter member of the Celilo Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and in the past ten years, she helped at the registration table at Red Cross blood drives. She also loved camping in the mountains, visiting the Oregon coast, and traveling the United States and Europe. She is survived by her children Jerry Willett, Eugene; Marilyn Perry, Beaverton; Denis and his wife Christie, Beaverton; Linda Holcomb and her husband George, The Dalles; David and his wife Margie, The Dalles; her sister Janet Bolton, The Dalles; her sister-in law Cleo Hastings, Fresno, Calif.; her brothers-in-law, Ron Willett, Steilacoom, Wash.; Mike and his wife Lois, The Dalles; Glen and his wife Milita, The Dalles; Willard, Dundee; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jesse Willett; her brothers Lyle and Wallace, and her sister Elsie. A viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, May 25, from 2 to 7 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26, at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the IOOF 18th Street Cemetery. Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Remembrances may be made to American Cancer Society, 2120 First Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98109.
