The Dalles Weekly Reminder, July 26, 1984
Charles Deneen Wiles, 79, died Sunday.  He was a resident of The Dalles and 
Wishram.

Mr. Wiles was born Oct. 5, 1904 in Ellery, Ill. to Frank and Elsie Wiles.  He 
moved to Kansas at age seven.  He married Mary Miller on Sept. 14, 1930 in 
Blue Hill, Kan.  He owned a hardward store in Hunter, Kan.  He was the mayor 
of Hunter from 1939 to 1968 when he moved to Wishram, Wash.  He worked as an 
assistant park ranger at Horsethief Lake in 1970-75.  He moved to The Dalles 
in 1976 where he retired.  He helped manage a service station in The Dalles.

Mr. Wiles was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was an active 
charter member of the Lions Club in Hunter, Kan.  His wife, Mary, died April 
21, 1977.

He is survived by one sister, Sylvia Parson, Hunter, Kan.; one son, Phil, The 
Dalles; four gransons:  Keith, Spokane, Wash.; Randi, Teri and Craig, The 
Dalles; one foster son, Tom Braden, Lind, Wash.; a foster grandson, Bill, 
Lind, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

A sister Louella died in 1971; a sister Irene, in 1935, and a brother Truman 
in 1917.

Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home July 27 
at 10 a.m.  The Rev. Gerald Tanquist will officiate.

Palbears include:  Frank McCanna, Harry Bishop, Gerald Stratton, Sean Collins, 
Tom Farrer, and Chuck Gregory.  Guy Wilbern is an honorary pallbearer.  Burial 
will take place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles.

Memorials are suggested to Easter Seal Society of Oregon.
