The Dalles Weekly Reminder, April 22, 1988
Col. Harry L. Wickman, 82, a longtime resident of The Dalles died at the local 
hospital on Wednesday, April 13, 1988.

He was born Aug. 9, 1905, to William A. and Pauline Wickman at the family home 
near Petersburg.  He attended school at the Lower Five Mile School, then at 
Petersburg and later moved to The Dalles and attended high school in The 
Dalles.

Col. Wickman retired from the military in 1957 after a 32-year career.  He won 
the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Belgium Defense medal, "Albert Prince of 
the Regents" and many campaign medals with accompanying combat stars.

He was a past member of the Sojourners, Heroes of '76 and was past president 
of The Dalles Downtown Kiwanis Club.  He was also past presdient of the Old 
Wasco County Pioneer Association and a life member of the Order of Travelers, 
the military branch of the Masonic Lodge.  He reached the sublime degree of 
Master Mason in 1927, later becoming a member of the York Rite bodies of Free 
Masonry and the Commandery and Order of Mystic Shrine Al Kader Lodge of 
Portland and the Camel Herders of the Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; three daughters, Mavis Jane Ruddell, The 
Dalles; Shirley Ann Allen, Yakima, Wash.; and Evelyn Marie Wilkinson, Kansas 
City, Mo.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-
granddaughter and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were April 16 at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with 
burial following at Parklawn Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Shriners' 
Hospital, in care of Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home.
