Wakley iwakley@msn.com June 2, 2006, 2:03 am The Dalles Chronicle, April 26, 2006 Carolyn Dorothy White, 53, a resident of Joseph, died of cancer on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla. She was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Pendleton to James and Leola Barnes. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1970 and went on to Eastern Oregon College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1974. She married Michael White in Pendleton at the First Christian Church on June 23, 1973. They moved to Roseburg, where she taught school. They then moved to Eugene, where she raised her two sons. She was very active in the Boy Scouts and received volunteer of the year, among many other awards and recognitions. She moved again with her husband and youngest son to Joseph, where the family purchased and ran the Mountain View Motel and RV Park. She lived there until her death. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, and quilting and much of her work could be seen in her decorating of the family motel. She was proceeded in death by her father, James Barnes. She is survived by her husband Michael, Joseph; sons Zachary, Richland, Wash. and Aaron, Joseph; her mother, Leola Barnes, Pendleton; her 98-year-old grandmother, Violet Troxel, Pendleton; four brothers, Donald Tonning, Umatilla; David Barnes, Redmond; Raymond Barnes and James Barnes, both of Pendleton. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America; Oregon Trail Council or Blue Mountain Council, or the Willamette Valley Cancer Center, through Bishop Funeral Chapel, PO Box 325, Pendleton, OR 97801.
