Iva May Westlund, 83, a resident of Milton Freewater (Oregon) and a former resident of Hermiston (Oregon), died November 18, 2002 at a hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. She was born December 13, 1918 in Potlatch, Idaho, to John C. and Anna Lenore Soreweide Utz. She married Albin "Ab" E. Westlund in Goldendale (Washington) on October 1, 1938. He died on March 10, 2000. They settled in Hermiston in 1957. She delivered the East Oregonian in the late 1960s and in the early 1970s worked at a laundry in Walla Walla and worked at a cherry packing plant in The Dalles. She enjoyed embroidery and was a member of the Hermiston Assembly of God Church. She lived with her daughter, Marcia Thompson, in Milton-Freewater from 1994 to 2002. Survivors include her children, Jack and Ejnar Westlund, Gilmer, Texas; Emma A. Compton, South Beach; and Marcia Thompson, Milton-Freewater; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Hermiston Assembly of God Church, 730 E. Hulburt, at 3 p.m. Friday, November 22. Disposition was by cremation. She will be buried at the foot of her mother's and father's graves at the IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles at a later date. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in care of arrangements.
