He was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Anselmo, Neb., the youngest of seven children to Frank S. and Mattie Mae (McQuestin) Wells. He was raised in the Sand Hills of Nebraska near Broken Bow. He married Mary Pauline Clarke on March 16, 1946 in Broken Bow, Neb. They lived in the Madison Square area of Nebraska until the late 1940s. They moved to Caldwell, Idaho and then to Madrason April 1, 1950. He worked for a year harvesting clover in Madras and then switched to work power line construction in the Madras area. In 1960, he started work with P.P. & L, working for 22 ½ years before retiring in 1983. He and his wife moved to Rufus in 1972. After his retirement, they traveled throughout the Northwest and also lived in Rio Rancho, N.M. from 1999 to 2003. He was a member of Rufus Baptist Church and enjoyed rock hounding, hunting, fishing and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Wells, Rufus; children, Leona and her husband, Charles VanLeeuwen, Rio Rancho, N.M., Royce Lee Wells, Rio Rancho, N.M., Carol E. Middleton, Rufus, Linda S. and her husband, Pat Kirkpatrick, Yamhill; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Quinton and Saddie; one brother, Lloyd Wells, Broken Bow, Neb. and one sister, Rozena Voelker, Lincoln, NE. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005. Graveside services will be held at Wasco Sunrise Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 with Asa Jenson and Pastor Lee Brock officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
