Wakley iwakley@msn.com June 2, 2006, 1:34 am The Dalles Chronicle, April 18, 2006 Julius “John” Weller, 66, of The Dalles, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Muskegon, Mich., on July 4, 1939, the fifth of five children to Julius Joseph Weller and Anna (Mickela) Weller. He grew up in Muskegon, Mich., and joined the Navy in July of 1956, and served until April 1960. He married Karen Lee Smith on Nov. 1, 1968 in Cascade Locks, and lived in The Dalles for 40 years. He was a mail carrier for 39 years with the United States Post Office until his retirement on Dec. 2, 1999. He was a member of the American Legion post 19, and a past governor and longtime member of the Moose Lodge #2075. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, woodworking, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen Weller, The Dalles; sons, Tom Rose and fiancé Liz of Ventura, Calif.; Tim Rose, Lyle, Wash.; Todd Weller and fiancé Mina, Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter, Trina Wilhelm and companion Mike, The Dalles; sister, Marie Bryant of Muskegon; grandchildren, Shawna of Albany, Kayla, Eugene; Kendall, Aurora; Bobby Joe, San Diego; Curtis, Marysville, Wash.; Jordan, Gladstone; Kaitlyn, Gladstone; Chaz, The Dalles; six great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Anna Weller; his three brothers, Leroy, Bob, and Don; and a nephew Chuck, all of Muskegon. A memorial service will be held on April 21, at 3 p.m., with Asa Jenson officiating and past Moose Lodge governors Lester Nordoft, Steve Westman, Don Nelson, Clarence Renno, and “Squid,” all in attendance, at Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home, with a celebration of life to follow at the Moose Lodge. Another memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 23, at the American Legion Post at 2 p.m., with a luncheon to follow. Honorary pallbearers are John Carlson, John Carrell, Todd Weller, Mike Francois, and Jim Phipps. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
