Surnames: Welds, McEachern, Shoun, Whillock, Pearsall, Hannon, Simpson, Adams Tazwell "Tazie" Ora Welds, 94, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility, Thursday, February 27, 2003. She was born May 4, 1908 in Alfredo, Virginia, the second of eight children to David William and Venia Catherine (Shoun) Whillock. She was named after Tazwell County, which was the richest country in Virginia. The family moved to Oregon when she was 3 1/2 years old and she attended Spray High School, graduating in 1927. She came to The Dalles and attended and graduated from The Dalles School of Nursing in 1929. Following her graduation she worked at The Dalles General Hospital, The Mid-Columbia Hospital and Eastern Oregon State Tuberculosis Hospital in The Dalles and retired in 1973. She married Jack E. McEachern, November 6, 1930 and he died while serving in the U.S. Army in New Guinea during World War II. She then married Ted Welds, September 1952 in Stevenson, Washington and he died in 1967. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was a former member of the Nursing Association and enjoyed her family, playing pinochle, and gardening. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Pearsall of San Diego (California); her son, David Neil McEachern of Houma, Louisana; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Ethel Hannon of Brookings (Oregon); Ada Simpson of Prineville (Oregon); Selma Adams of Spray (Oregon), and numerous special nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services. Funeral services will be at the First Christian Church on Tuesday, March 4, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Mike R. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
