Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 19, 2006, 11:16 pm The Dalles Chronicle, February 6, 2006 William "Bill" J. Watson, 85, died Feb. 2, 2006. The oldest of seven, he was raised by parents, William and Isabelle Watson in Seattle. At the age of twelve, he joined the seminary and went on to become a catholic priest; he was ordained in Oakland, Calif., and after 6 years he left the priesthood. He moved to Portland, where he met his wife of fifty years, Betty Breininger; together they lived most of their lives in The Dalles, where they raised two sons. He first came to The Dalles to work in radio at KODL. He taught English, literature and speech for nearly forty years at Wahtonka High School and the Columbia Gorge Community College. He was very influential in the creation of the Learning House Program in The Dalles. He and his wife resided the last three years in Sherwood, close to family. He leaves behind his wife Betty, sister Anne Watson, and sons Marty and Rob. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Thursday Feb. 9, 11 a.m., with Father Tom McCarthy.
