The Dalles Chronicle, December 1, 2004
     Laverna Mae Watrus, 76, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care 
facility on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004.
     She was born on May 30, 1928 in The Dalles, the youngest of three 
children to Frank Conrad and Clara Hattie (Lorenzen) Sauter. 
     She was raised in The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School in 
1946. She married William Alfred Watrus on Sept. 15, 1946 in The Dalles.      
After high school, she worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 3 years. She then 
stayed home to raise the family and eventually went back to work for The 
Dalles Chronicle in the advertising department. 
     She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, and her family.
     She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill Watrus, The Dalles; two 
sons, Bob Watrus, Seattle; and Ron Watrus, The Dalles; and several nieces and 
nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Sauter, and 
two brothers, Kenneth and Everett Sauter.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Spencer, 
Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Asa Jenson officiating. Interment will follow 
at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road with Spencer, Libby & Powell 
Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
