The Dalles Weekly Reminder, February 23, 1996
     Selma Viola Watkins, 89, a long-time resident of Wasco, died at a care 
center in The Dalles on Feb. 17, 1996.
     She was born July 30, 1906, the daughter of Harry and Gerda (Kuhnhausen) 
Richelderfer.  She grew up in Glenwood, Wash., and returned to Wasco as a 
teenager where she graduated from Wasco High School.
     She married Elmer Gosson in 1926 and he preceded her in death in 1926.  
She then married Leo Watkins in 1930 and they owned and operated a wheat ranch 
near Wasco.  He preceded her in death in 1983.
     She was a member of the Wasco Church of Christ, Rebekah Lodge 127 and 
served as State President in 1962.  She was also a member of the Ladies 
Patriarch Militant, Theta Rhio, the Rufus Grange, Neighbors of Woodcraft and 
other organizations.  She enjoyed needlecrafts, playing the piano, attending 
various organizational meetings and she loved to dance.
     She is survived by her sons:  Eugene Gosson and wife, Louise, of 
McMinnville, Don Watkins and wife, Dorothy, of Madras; daughters:  Joanne Buck 
and husband, John, of Moro and Judy Smith and husband, Terry, of Dayton, 
Wash.; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
     Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Wasco Church of Christ.  
Private interment followed at the Wasco Sunrise Cemetery.
     Memorials:  Wasco Church of Christ or a favorite charity, sent in care of 
Smith Callaway Chapel.
