She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Salem, Ark., the second of four children to Joseph Jefferson and Addie (Emery) Barnett. She grew up in Salem and married her husband, Cletus Curtis Ward, there, in 1936. They lived most of their married life in California, but did return to Arkansas for several years before Cletus' death. In 1975, Letha moved to The Dalles to be near family. She was a homemaker but had also worked other jobs including for Camlu Retirement Home. She was also a volunteer with Pioneer Potlatch. She enjoyed gardening, roses, making quilts and doing word puzzles. She is survived by her sons and their spouses; Curtis Ward, Jerry and Pat Ward, all of The Dalles, Leon and Carol Ward, Rufus, and Larry and Judy Ward, Dallesport; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; her sister, Opal Dickens, The Dalles; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus, in 1974 and her brothers, James and Roy Barnett. Graveside services were held at The Dalles Three Mile Road IOOF Cemetery today, Jan. 24, with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
