Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 9, 2006, 6:13 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, March 15, 1984 Arthur Thomas Ward, a resident of Rufus since 1960, died in Goldendale March 6 as a result of an auto accident. He was born June 11, 1921 in Prospect, Pa. Ward was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the VFW in Arlington, where he was a past commander. He was an American Legion member in Goldendale and belonged to the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was a heavy equipment operator in local construction until he was forced to retire for health reasons. He is survived by his wife, Bessie of Rufus, whom he married in Oakland, Md., Nov. 2, 1942. Other survivors include two sons, Arthur and William Ward, both The Dalles, two daughters, Mary E. Sullivan and Barbara Ward, both of Rufus, 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, two brothers, Joseph and Chance Ward, both of Pennsylvania and two sisters, Anna Lar of Ohio, and Jennie McKissick of Pennsylvania. Graveside funeral services were Monday, in the veteran's section of Parklawn Cemetery in The Dalles. Spencer, Libby & Powell was in chrge of arrangements.
