The Dalles Weekly Reminder, June 21, 1984
     George Elden Wagenblast Sr., 90, died Wednesday at a local nursing home.  
He had lived in The Dalles area all his life.

     He was born Dec. 2, 1893 to Frank and Daisy Wagenblast in the Eightmile 
area near The Dalles.

     He had been a member of the Knights of Pythias since 1919, and was also a 
member of the Order of Dokk and the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association.  He 
was Pioneer of the Year in 1982.  Wagenblast owned mule teams used in harvests.

     One of the most widely circulated pictures from Oregon is one of a 27 
mule team harvesting wheat on the hills ovelooking the Deschutes River.

     The picture was made in 1932 and is still available by reprint.

     In 1939, the late Ray F. Kelly saw the picture in the agriculture 
building in The Hague, The Netherlands.  The picture is also hung in the U.S. 
Department of Agriculture Building.

     Wagenblast farmed six years at Fivemile then moved to the Columbia 
District where the family has been farming 63 years.

     He is survived by three sons, Robert, Elden and Earl, all of The Dalles; 
eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and 
nephews.  His wife, May Pearl, died July 13, 1979.

     Funeral services were Saturday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
with pastor Asa Jensen officiating.  Burial was at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery.

     Pallbearers were Bill, Tim and David Wagenblast, Tom May, Rich Remington 
and Alvie Clark.

     Memorials may be made to charities.
