Voegtly, 41, a former resident of The Dalles, died in Dalesville, Alabama July 21, while on active duty with the U.S. Army. Major Voegtly is survived by his wife Sharon of Woodbridge, Virginia; three daughters, Raelene Jane, Mary Elizabeth, and Teri Lois, all of the family home in Virginia; his mother, Lois Voegtly of San Jose; a brother, Nicholas Voegtly of Lochlomand, California; and a sister, Vayle Ammons of Panama City, Florida. Victor was born in Portland July 12, 1943. He attended Burns Elementary School and graduated from Burns Union High School in 1961. After training in flying at Fort Ord, he served two terms of service as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He married Sharon Brewington June 17, 1973. While in The Dalles, he was employed in various capacities including one year at Judson Baptist College. He also established an electrical wholesale business and later moved into the computer field. At the time of his death he was in training at Fort Rucker, Alabama as a computer programmer with the U.S. Army Reserves. Funeral services were at LaFollette's Chapel in Burns Wednesady, Aug. 1. The Voegtly family first arrived in Burns in 1886 when their grandfather settled there after migrating from Switzerland. Victor was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles and the Rev. Egerton Long, Pastor at Calvary Baptist, officiated at the service. Burial was at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell with full military honors. Pall bearers were from the U.S. Army, Ft. Lewis, Washington. Contributions in his memory can be made to Judson Baptist College at La Follette's Chapel, Box 488, Burns, Oregon.
