Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 2, 2006, 12:57 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 20, 1984 Robert Franklin Van Ostrand, 68, died Sept. 12 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center. He resided in The Dalles since 1979 and Twin Falls, Idaho, prior to that time. He was born June 3, 1916 in York, Neb. Mr. Van Ostrand served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He had worked as a master mechanic in the road construction industry before moving to The Dalles, and for the last several years he had been groundskeeper at Mid- Columbia Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Inez, whom he married on Sept. 23, 1964 in Hermiston; a son, Robert, Twin Falls; a daughter, Sharon, Boise, Idaho; his mother, Stella S. Morse, Prosser, Wash.; three step-children, David Shattuck, Portland; Carole Whiteside, Prosser; and Beverly Griggs, Mt. Home, Idaho; a brother, Harold Van Ostrand, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were Friday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. James Hazlett officiating. Burial and veteran's services were at the veterans' section of The Dalles IOOF Cemetery. Casketbearers were Jim Carte, Gary Rood, Terry Walton, Jim Cade, Ken Caldwell and Phil Foote.
