Vanderpool, pioneer resident of Dufur and native of Oregon, died at a local hospital at 4 o'clock this morning after a long illness, at the age of 73 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Dufur Methodist church, Rev. Paul Roeder officiating. The body will lie in state at the Dufur Masonic hall from Thursday morning until the hour of the funeral. Interment will be in the Dufur cemetery under the direction of Callaway's, and the Masonic lodge will have charge of graveside services. Honorary pallbearers will be George W. Johnsonton, George D. Brodie, C.C. Cooper, Owen Jones, J.P. Bolton, C.H. Stroughton, G.C. Moore and J.A. Stevens. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Carson, William Fulton, Floyd Vanderpool, C.W. Heisler, Melvin Sigman and Charles Heisler. Willard Vanderpool was born in the Willamette valley December 24, 1856, the son of Dr. Larkin Vanderpool and Mary Vanderpool. The parents had come across the plains in 1852 settling in Benton county where Dr. Vanderpool practiced medicine. In 1869, the couple moved to Prineville and Dr. Vanderpool was one of the early practicing physicians in Crook county. The family moved to Dufur in 1884, where Dr. Vanderpool continued to practice medicine until his death in 1894. 2 Children Born Willard L. Vanderpool, accompanied his parents from Prineville to Dufur, where he continued to reside during his lifetime. He was married to Mary Hisler, daughter of William and Martha Heisler, who was also a native of Oregon. To this union, two children were born, a daughter, Ada, who died at the age of 5, and a son, John K., who died in 1920. Mr. Vanderpool was a successful farmer and business man. A number of years ago he retired from active ranching and since had devoted his attention to a fruit ranch west of Dufur. He was a member of Morris lodge, No. 129, A.F. & A.M.; The Dalles chapter, R.A.M.; Al Kader Shrine temple of Portland, Ridgely lodge No. 71, I.O.O.F.; Star Rebekah lodge, No. 23 and Woodmen of the World. He had served Dufur as mayor, councilman, park commissioner and in various capacities. At the time of his death, he was a member of the school board, an office which he had held many years. Surviving are his widow, Mary Vanderpool, of Dufur, and several grandchildren. The Dalles Weekly Chronicle, Thursday, April 24, 1930
