He was born July 25, 1937 in Afono, America Samoa, the eighth of 12 children to Ieremia and Palauli (Fafai) Tuimavave. He was raised and graduated high school in Afono. He attended college, taught grade school for several years, and then worked as a police officer for four years before starting a ministry. As a minister he moved to the Los Angeles area in 1972, and then to The Dalles on June 18, 1988. He returned to the Los Angeles area in 1993 where he lived until October 2001 when he moved back to The Dalles. He enjoyed his church work, singing, traveling and sight seeing, and sports, especially volleyball. He is survived by his wife, Aigaalofivao M. (Folasa) Tuimavave, whom he married Aug. 23, 1984 in Long Beach, Calif., The Dalles; 12 children, Sinu’u R. and Volunteer Lemalie, Aoina Danny, Melaia and Fale Tuimavave, Lagi Tavita, all of San Francisco; Tulaga Leilani Sione, Ray and Janice Tuimavave, all of The Dalles; Talosauau Lemalie and Daniel Tuimavave, both of America Samoa; Tamau Lemalie, Hilo, Hawaii; 40 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nieetia Ieremia, Utah and Vaitia Sauta, Los Angeles; three brothers, Tusi (Primo) Tuimavave, San Francisco; Ausage Sua Tuimavave, Los Angeles and Paletasala Ieremia, America Samoa. He was preceded in death by two sisters Lemaline Tuimavave and Fiapai Ieremia; four brothers, Fagafaga Ieremia, Aoelua Vaiatiga Tuimavave, Tuimavave Lausei and Lausei Tuimavave. Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. and on Monday, Feb. 16, at The Dalles Seventh Day Adventist Church at 10 a.m. with entombment following at The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home are in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
