He was born Aug. 27, 1918 in Willits, Calif., the second of four children to Charles Victor and Pearl (Hardin) Tuck. He was raised in Willits and graduated high school from Willits in 1935. After high school he served in the U.S. Army for one year and then attended Willits’ Community College for two years. In November 1940, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. While in the U.S. Navy, he married Carole Ellen Schmeichael, a WAVE in the U.S. Navy, in Mare Island, Calif., in 1944. He settled in Wausau, Wisc., after the service, and worked as a police officer. In 1950, he started working with Marthon Corp, now known as American Can Corp. He was transferred in 1958 to Modesto, Calif., and worked until his retirement in 1980. He moved to The Dalles in 2000. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Eagles and Moose Lodges, National Association of Pearl Harbor Survivors and the V.F.W. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by two sons, Paul R. Tuck, Sacramento, Calif.; Brian V. and his wife, Gloria Tuck, The Dalles; five grandchildren, Rose Ann, Victoria Marie, Robert, Dave and Annie; six great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Paige, Bailey, Laine, Jordan and Nathan; a brother, Robert Tuck, Portland; and a sister, Ruth Bean, Willits. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole on March 23, 1990. Graveside services with Navy rites will be held at Willits’ Cemetery, in Willits, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
