She was born Jan. 31, 1914 in Canby, to Jess and Blanche Hepler, the third of eight children. She married Walter “Tex” Tolbert in Vancouver, Wash., and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1997. She assisted her husband in several business enterprises, but remained primarily a homemaker and mother. After many years in White Salmon she moved to The Dalles in 1990. She was a member of the Rowena Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons, Ludwell Tolbert, White Salmon; and Jess Michael Tolbert, Fairbanks, Alaska; her sisters Maybel Lent, Prineville; and Evelyn Smith of Canby. She had five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by brothers Lloyd and Clyde Hepler and sisters Thelma Cumming, Edna Holden, and Doloris Scott. A service in celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Mill Creek Point retirement community at 10th Street and Cherry Heights Road in The Dalles.
