She was born Dec. 18, 1912, the youngest of seven children to Charles Henry and Alice Jane (Hanna) Swett on a farm in Underhill Canyon near Boyd. She was raised in Dufur and graduated from Dufur High School in the class of 1931. She married Edra Ray Tidwell, at the Dufur Christian Church on Aug. 23, 1931 and it was the first wedding held at the Dufur Christian Church. He died in a farming accident on June 19, 1956. She was a homemaker and a farmer and lived on the family farm known as "Twelve Mile Ranch," located on the Boyd Loop Road near Dufur and resided in the home for 64 years before moving to Flagstone Retirement Center in May of 2000. She was a member of Dufur Christian Church and was placed on the Cradle Roll by her mother on February 13, 1913 and became a member at an early age. She was a dedicated participant all her life, having taught Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School, serving on many committees, and singing in the choir. She was a member of the Dufur Valley Garden Club, Ramsey Park Grange, Pioneer Potlatch, Dufur School Alumni Association, honored as the Grand Marshall for the Homecoming Parade, Wasco County Pioneer's Association, honored as Woman of The Year in 1989. She participated in the International Farm Youth Exchange Program sponsored by the Oregon State Extension Service by hosting a young man from India in August of 1956. Following this experience, she traveled throughout Oregon speaking to audiences about what it was like being an "IFYE Mom" during the years of 1956-60. She enjoyed gardening, collecting and writing about history of the area, including writing a book about her own life. Some of her writings were published in local periodicals and she was looked upon as a source of local history. She is survived by her children, Ted and his wife, Dolores Tidwell, The Dalles; Phyllis and her husband, Jack Hart, Kennewick; Dennis and his wife, Deanna Tidwell, Hershey, Penn.; Christine and her husband, Larry Sullivan, Clarkston, Wash. and Bill and his wife, Louise Tidwell, Kalispell, Mont.; eight grandchildren, Carmen and her husband, Jamie Campbell, The Dalles; Debbie and her husband, Todd Ferguson, Vancouver, Wash.; Lorri and her husband, Darin Aldridge, Beavercreek; Sherri and her husband, Chris Seymour, Marysville, Wash.; Dana and her husband, Dan Leischner, Canby; Lorna Collins, Portland; Adam and his wife, Jessy Tidwell and Rebecca Tidwell, Kalispell; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ferguson, Jared Aldridge, Sophia Seymour and Eli Tidwell. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, March 26, 2004 from 2 to 7 PM and 8:30 to 10a.m. on Saturday at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. Graveside committal services will be held at The Dalles Three Mile Road Odd Fellows Cemetery, formerly known as Parklawn Cemetery, on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. Memorial services will follow at Dufur Christian Church at 1 p.m. with Asa Jenson and Bob Peterson officiating.
