Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 23, 2006, 10:41 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 8, 1995 Helen Elizabeth Thompson, a Tygh Valley resident, died Nov. 29, 1995 at a local care center. She was 70. She was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Chelan, Wash., the fourth of nine children born to Robert L. and Florence (Price) Bonwell. She grew up in Omak and Port Orchard, Wash. On April 24, 1948, she married David Paul Thompson in Las Vegas, Nevada. They've made their home in Wamic and Tygh Valley since 1952. Mrs. Thompson worked as postmistress of Tygh Valley Post Office for 27 years, retiring in the mid-1980s. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, David, of Tygh Valley; step- daughter Joanne Castro of Brookings; step-son David Thompson of Seattle; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters: Margaret Moomaw of Omak; Edward Bonwell of Renton, Wash.; Peggy Brown, Hazel Wenhan, Dorothy McCaughan, all of Kent, Wash.; Joseph Bonwell of Silverdale, Wash. and Pauline McCracken of Granite Quarry, North Carolina. Viewing visitation was held Dec. 3 at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with graveside services at Tygh Valley Cemetery on Dec. 4, Asa Jenson officiating. Memorials: Hospice of the Gorge, in care of Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058.
