He was born April 8, 1926, in Enterprise, the oldest son of Edgar E. and Portia (Steel) Thomas. Following his graduation from Enterprise High School he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during WWII in Okinawa. Retiring from the Army after 20 years of service to his country, he started a new career with United Airlines and served with that company for another 20 years. He then retired to his favorite spot, Maupin, in the early 1980s and pursued his fishing interests. His favorite fishing spots were New Zealand and Maupin. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in Wasco and Wallowa counties. He is survived by two brothers, Wayne S. Thompson, West Linn; and James Thomas, Roseville, Calif.; as well as nephews Mike, Dick, Gregg, John and James Thomas and nieces Susan, Julie, and Mary-Elizabeth. At his request no public services will be held. The family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with the disposition of his ashes.
