He was born September 13, 1928, in The Dalles, the second of three children to Karl Frijof and Lucille Josephine (Schmidt) Thomsen. He grew up in Hood River (Oregon) and The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1946. He served in the US Army in Toyko, Japan, from 1946 to 1948. He returned to The Dalles and married Patricia JoAnne LaMarche on December 27, 1951. He worked for Wasco Electric Co-op for 46 years, retiring as manager in 1993. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Chenowith Grange, American Legion, NWP Power Association, NRECA, and ORECA. He had coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and been a 4-H electric club leader. He enjoyed fishing, deer and elk hunting, and all sports especially his grandchildren's games. He volunteered on many local projects, the latest being the Civic Auditorium. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia, The Dalles; his son, Dan M. Thomsen and wife, Tylene, and their children, Stacy J., Stephanie J. and Shelby J. Thomsen, all of Roseburg (Oregon); his daughter, Deana M. Beyer and husband, Doug and their children, Erin M., Kristiana J., Daniel Arthur and John Michael Beyer, all of Kennewick, Washington; his brother, Fred Thomsen, The Dalles and his sister, Bonnie Fogarty, Portland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, with Reverend Todd Unger as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to OHSU Foundation, 1121 SW Salmon Street, #200, Portland, Oregon 97205 or charity of choice. Interment will be at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery and a reception for family and friends will follow at St. Peter Parish Center. He was a long time manager of Wasco Electric Company in The Dalles and died at his home on Saturday, May 3.
