Telfer, 76, a resident of The Dalles, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at the local hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1928 in Mitchell, S. Dak. to Carl and Gertrude (Noss) Yost and grew up in Minnesota. Shortly after high school she married George D. Telfer in St. Paul, Minn., on Dec. 1, 1948 and later that month moved to The Dalles. A homemaker first, she loved caring for her family and cooking for them. She worked in several local gathering places as a bartender over the years, notably The Dalles Hotel, The Dalles Elks, and The Dalles Country Club. She enjoyed league bowling and working in her yard and flower garden. She was active in her community, from PTA theatricals to volunteering as a Care-A-Van driver for a number of years, and enjoyed weekly bridge games at the Country Club. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority and attended church at Gateway Presbyterian. Survivors include her husband, George, The Dalles; and her children, Michael and his wife Shelley Telfer, daughters Barbara Telfer and Paula Faasse, all The Dalles; her brothers Gerold Yost, Cohasset, Minn.; Chuck Yost, Deer River, Minn.; and Bob Yost, Birmingham, Ala.; sisters Viola Patterson, Rochester, Minn.; Irene Simons, Grand Rapids, Minn.; Louella Rasley, Fairbanks, Alaska; Lorraine Pickard, Vero Beach, Fla.; and Leona Radke, Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren Jennifer and her husband Don Waite, George Allen, and Michael Telfer, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Raymond, Bernard and Edward Yost and sisters Lucille and Carolyn. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at Gateway Presbyterian Church, the Reverend Dr. James Hazlett presiding. The family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with the placement of her ashes.
