Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 7, 2006, 11:33 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, June 16, 1983 James D. (Red) Talley, 69, a resident of The Dalles since 1955, died Saturday at Mid-Columbia Medical Center. He was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Morristown, Tenn. Mr. Talley was an ironworker in heavy construction, and had worked on dam construction in this area for many years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in The Dalles, the Ironworkers Local 29 and the National Rifleman's Association. Survivors include his mother, Nelle Talley, Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Bettie Smelser, The Dalles; a stepson, Al Cooper, The Dalles; a sister, Dorothy Rupp, Birmingham, Ala.; three grandsons, Mike Smelser, The Dalles, and Ronnie and Kenny Cooper, both of Spokane, Wash. Funeral services were today (Thursday) at Smith Callaway Chapel, with burial at the Odd Fellows Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Jim Duvall, Harvey Cearley, Malcolm O'Brien, Earl Jepsen, Les Gallip and Tack Kimball.
