She was born June 13, 1922, in Valley City, N.D., the fourth of six children to Rheinhold and Lena (Henning) Schulz. She completed 12th grade at Noltimeir Grade and High School in Valley City. After high school she came by train to Portland to work at Montgomery Wards. She married Charles Hadley Swisher on Oct. 23, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, Washington. They lived in Portland from 1944 to 1950; Hermiston from 1950 to 1963; Goldendale from 1963 to 1971; The Dalles from 1971 to 1990 and Dufur from 1990 to 2004. She worked at Montgomery Wards in Portland for ten years then was a homemaker before returning to work as a proof reader and office clerk at the Goldendale Sentinel and later was bookkeeper for Dr. Minnick in The Dalles for fifteen years. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Past Grand Noble of Rebekah Lodge, past president of Lady Elks Emblem Club and member of Eagles Auxiliary, She also had been active with Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Brownies, PTA, bowling leagues and pinochle. She is survived by her husband, Charles Swisher, Dufur; her daughter, Sharon Johnston, Redmond; her son, Gary and his wife, Becky Swisher, Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Todd and Jan Paula Swisher, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Chris and Ross Swisher, Vancouver; Shayla and Scott Copas, Maumelle, Ark.; Lauri Swisher, Nashville, Tenn.; great grandchildren, Lindsay and Isaac Swisher and Chelsey Breanne Copas; sister, Mildred Wells, Portland; a brother, Fred Schulz, Cannon Falls, Minn. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ardella, Dorothy, Verna. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10 and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Kelbel as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, P.O. Box 395, Dufur, 97021.
