She was born April 4, 1921 to Louis and Olga (Erickson) Schairer. She graduated from St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic School in 1939. After graduating, she worked for Astoria Budget. She married Claude Swingle in San Bernardino, California on October 22, 1942. They managed the Astoria Apartments before moving to The Dalles where they lived for 40 years. While living in The Dalles they started Swingle Machinery Sales. She also started Mary's Tole Hut. The moved to Ocean Park 15 years ago. She also moved Mary's Tole Hut to Long Beach and started Oceans of Art Supplies and More. They owned and operated Westgate Trailer Park in Ocean Park for 20 plus years, while living in Long Beach. She was a member of the Anchor Club since the early 1950s, where she was a past skipper. She was also a member of the Ocean Park Art Association. She enjoyed painting and loved to sponsor noted artists to teach at her shop. Survivors include her husband, Claude, Long Beach; a son and daughter-in-law, Rob Swingle and Mary Knutsen-Swingle, El Cajon, California, a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Jim Jeffers, Portland; grandchildren, Mike Swingle, Issaquah, Washington; Molly Vogt, St. Louis, Missouri; Amy Heutzemroeder, La Pine, Jim Jeffers, Portland and Lisa Jeffers, Portland; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Duffy, Claremont, California; Agnes Shriver, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ann Potter, Svensen; numerous nieces and nephews and an aunt, Esther Waltman, Astoria. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Astoria. Interment is at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton (Oregon). Memorials may be made to Harbor House Health and Hospice in Long Beach or the Ocean Park Fire Station.
