The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 19, 1984
     Francis William Sutton, a resident of The Dalles since 1948, died Friday 
at his home following an extended illness.

     He was born July 31, 1915 in Granger, Wash.

     Mr. Sutton served in the U.S. Army in World War II, and was a charter 
member of Chenowith Baptist Church.  He served as field director for the 
American Sunday School Union from 1948 until 1975.

     Survivors include his wife, C. Zane Sutton, The Dalles; a son, Keith J., 
The Dalles; two daughters, Carla J. Craig, Portland, and Karen V. Votaw, 
Whittier, Calif.; two stepsons, Jim Hearing, Billings, Mont., and Merrit 
Hearing, Portland; a step-daughter, Sharon K. Pryor, The Dalles; two foster 
children, Lucy Teeman, The Dalles and Leonard Teeman, Salem; grandchildren and 
three sisters, Adella and Ruth, Zillah, Wash., and Dorothy, Cowlitz, Wash.  
His first wife, Esther, died in 1975, and a son, Stephen, in 1979.

     Funeral services were Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. 
Virgil R. Savage officiating.  Private burial services were at the family 
memorial cemetery.

     Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

     Memorials may be made to Judson Baptist College or to the American Cancer 
Society.
