He was born May 13, 1941 in Lilly, S.D., to Duane and Lillian (Coburn) Stevens and came to Oregon with his family in 1941. Following high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea for several years. He worked for many years as a construction laborer before becoming a security officer at Northwest Aluminum. He moved to Mosier from Vancouver in 1990. He loved animals of all kinds and going on fishing trips with his family and friends. Survivors include his mother, Lillian Stevens, Mesquite, Nev.; his friend and companion of 14 years, Eileen Lutje, Mosier; his sons and their families, David and Lisa Stevens, Vancouver, Wash.; and Russell Stevens, Madras; brother Albert Stevens, Mosier; sisters Marian Miller, Beaver Dam, Ariz.; JoAnne Wilkins, Rapid City, S.D.; and Betty Ramsay, Orchards, Wash. In accordance with his wishes there will be no public ceremony; the family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with the placement of his ashes. Memorial contributions may be made to Home At Last Animal Friends, P.O. Box 390, The Dalles, OR 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
