The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 13, 1984
     Hazel Henkle Staines, 95, died at a local nursing home.  She was a 
resident of The Dalles for the last 10 years and formerly a resident of 
Portland.

     She was born March 4, 1889 in Wasco.

     Mrs. Staines had been an elementary school teacher in Portland before her 
retirement.  She was a life member of the Waverly Chapter of the Order of 
Eastern Star and the Waverly Congregational Church.

     Survivors include two brothers, Mark F. Henkle, The Dalles, and Clark 
Henkle, Grants Pass; a sister, Vinita Benson, Waterville, and nieces and 
nephews.

     Memorial services were Wednesday at Portland Memorial Chapel.  Smith 
Callaway Chapel in care of local arrangements.

     Memorials may be made to the OES Home in Forest Grove.
