The Dalles Chronicle, September 20, 2006
     Arthur Harold Staab, 84, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care 
facility on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006.

     He was born in Hays, Kan., on Aug. 11, 1922, the seventh of eight 
children to Ferdinand and Rosa (Schueler) Staab. 

     In his early childhood they moved to Salem, where he graduated from Salem 
High School. 

     He served in the Merchant Marines and later in the U.S. Navy receiving 
the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Area, Asiatic-
Pacific Area and the European-African M.E. Area Campaign Medals. 

     He married Colleen Cox, who preceded him in death. He later married Helen 
(Ballard) Staab in Lincoln City, on Feb. 18, 1993. 

     He enjoyed fishing for salmon off Newport, playing cards and going to 
Reno. 

     He is survived by his wife, Helen Staab, The Dalles; his stepsons, Gary 
Emmons and his wife Rebecca, Vancouver, Wash.; and Ken Emmons and his wife 
Pam, Vancouver, Wash.; his stepdaughter, Connie Emmons, Hillsboro; his sister, 
Bette Weigel, Wilsonville; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 
nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

     A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Cyril 
Catholic Church, 9205 S.W. Fifth Street, Wilsonville, with Father Dan Adams 
officiating with private burial at Willamette National Cemetery.
