The Dalles Chronicle, October 11, 2005
     Wilbur Walter Spickerman, 84, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local 
hospital Friday Oct. 7, 2005. 
     He was born Dec. 29, 1920, in The Dalles, the seventh of eight children 
to Herbert A. and Anna M. (Drechsell) Spickerman. He grew up in The Dalles and 
graduated from The Dalles High School in 1940. 
     He married Joan Irene Thomas on Jan. 10, 1942, in The Dalles where they 
lived for sixty-three years.
     He was in the US Navy, stationed in the South Pacific, during World War 
II, 1942-1945. Upon returning to The Dalles he went into business with his 
father, building several homes in The Dalles. He then worked on the 
construction of The Dalles and John Day dams. He was the financial secretary 
and business representative for the local Carpenters Union until his 
retirement in 1982. 
     He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion. He enjoyed 
fishing, going to yard sales and hobbied in carpentry.
     He is survived by his wife Joan Irene Spickerman, The Dalles; his son Jim 
Spickerman, Eugene; daughter Barbara Nye, Beaverton; three grandchildren, 
Jennifer Nye, Beaverton; Anna Spickerman Lavin and her husband Joel, and Kurt 
Spickerman all of Eugene; one great grandchild Lila Spickerman Lavin, and 
numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, all his 
brothers and sisters and his grandson, Shaun Nye. 
     Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at IOOF 
Cemetery, 1100 W. 18th St., The Dalles.
     Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Memorial Fund, 101 W. 10th St., 
The Dalles, OR 97058.
