Surnames: Smith, Walker, Sodorff, Elliott, Russell, Conley Virginia Madeline Smith, 74, a resident of The Dalles, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at her home. She was born April 26, 1928 in Pullman, Washington, the youngest of five children to Charles Emil and Fannie Ida (Walker) Sodorff and grew up in the greater Spokane Valley area. She was a graduate of Central Valley High School. On June 12, 1948 she married Earnest A. Smith in Spokane (Washington) and they made their home there briefly before moving west to the Puyallup Valley in Puget Sound in 1953. they later moved to Hood River (Oregon) in 1965 and finally to The Dalles in 1996. Mr. Smith died in 1997. She was a homemaker and a mother who enjoyed her family and also found time for her other special interests, including sewing, reading, listening to music, and missionary work for her church. She was a faithful student of the bible and devoted a part of each day to bible study. While living in The Dalles she was a member of Covenant Christian Community. Survivors include her children and their families; Ted and Joy Smith of The Dalles, Tim and Kim Smith of Galt, California, Lolly and Irv Elliott of Oregon City (Oregon), Gwen Russell of Tillamook (Oregon), Tammy and Mike Conley of Cottage Grove (Oregon), and Beth Smith of The Dalles; 27 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her four siblings. A service in celebration of her life will be held at Covenant Christian Community, 2630 East 18th Street on Tuesday, March 18th, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Norman Clear presiding. Private interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing visitation will be Monday, March 17, from 10 a.m. - t p.m., at Columbia Cremation & Burial, 1012 Trevitt Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, P.O. Box 96305, Washington, D.C. 20090-6305. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & burial.
