     Ruth Smith, 85, a resident of Dufur, died at the local hospital on 
Friday, Dec. 24, 2004.
     She was born Jan. 10, 1919, in The Dalles, the youngest of five children 
to Frank and Grace (Brace) Ellison. She grew up in the Mill Creek area and 
graduated from The Dalles High School.
     She married Frank L. Smith in The Dalles in 1937, and they lived in The 
Dalles until moving to Redmond in 1958. They retired to Dufur in 1983.
     She worked as a health service administrator in Redmond. She enjoyed 
fishing, reading and being with her family.
     She is survived by her children, Gary L. Smith, Lake Oswego; and Lawrence 
and his wife, Emily Smith, Bend; her grandchildren, Brian Smith, Lake Havasu, 
Ariz., and Shannon Smith, Redmond; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy 
James, The Dalles; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death 
by her husband of 52 years in 1989; her brothers, Roy and Buck; and her 
sister, Frances.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Dec. 29.
     Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at The 
Dalles Threemile Road IOOF Cemetery (formerly Parklawn) with Asa Jenson 
officiating.
     Remembrances may be made to the Oregon Heart Association, 1425 NE Irving 
#100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.
