He was a life-long resident of Grass Valley. Mr. Smith was born May 17, 1913 in Grass Valley to Gus and Bertha Smith. He worked as warehouseman for the Grass Valley Grain Grower until his retirement. He was a member of The Dalles Elks Lodge, American Legion, George Bell Post No. 49. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a long-time treasurer for the City of Grass Valley. He is survived by his wife Glendora, whom he married in Dallas, Ore. Sept. 11, 1935; one son, Larry Smith, Sacramento, Calif.; two granddaughters, Linda Smith and Mrs. Rhonda Demaray of Sacramento; one great-grandson, Chase Demaray of Sacramento; two cousins, Nelda Feely of Vancouver, Wash.; and Lila Karnes of Kansas. Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Grass Valley Baptist Church. Pastor Arthur Brown officiated. Burial and military rites followed at Grass Valley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sherman County Ambulance Fund. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
