Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 11:05 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, April 26, 1984 Richard Winfield Smith, 60, a resident of The Dalles for the past five years, died at his home on Friday, April 20. He was born April 13, 1924 at Amarillo, Tex. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Army and received the Purple Heart. Survivors include a son, Richard (Rick) Smith, The Dalles; two daughters, Sandra Dale Blaan, Las Cruces, N.M., and Lana Rollens, in Delaware; his mother, Jewell Smith, Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; a brother, Zane E., Albuquerque; and a sister, Peggy Lesspad, Campbell, Calif. Mr. Smith was a member of the Bahai Faith. Services by that faith were conducted on Saturday, April 21 at the veteran's section of Parklawn Cemetery. Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
