The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 26, 1996
     Leona Isabele Simons, 78, a resident of The Dalles, died at Mid-Columbia 
Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996.
     She was born Aug. 29, 1917 in Owatonna, Minn., the fourth of 11 children 
to Robert Milton and Mary (Knudsen) Dorman.  She grew up in South Dakota and, 
following high school, moved west, living in several other towns before 
settling in The Dalles.
     She worked as a waitress, until retiring at the age of 70, at the 
Recreation, Fancy Dan's, Copper Kitchen and the Portage Inn.
     She was member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, 
sewing, crocheting and her work as a waitress.
     She is survived by her two daughters:  Marilyn Rogers near Dallas, Texas, 
and Edna and her husband, Joe Moore of The Dalles; seven grandchildren; two 
sisters:  Edna Mengis of The Dalles and Mildred Erickson of Los Angeles, 
Calif. and her brother, Robert Dorman of South Dakota.
     Graveside services were held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery on 
Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Maag officiating.
     Memorials:  St. Mary's School Foundation, sent in care of Spencer, Libby 
and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058.
