   Michael Jon Simantel, 16, a resident of Wasco, died on Thursday, May 29, 
2003. He was born July 15, 1986, in The Dalles, the second of four children to 
Jon Michael and Julie Ann (Dueber) Simantel. 
     He attended schools in the Sherman County School District and was 
currently a junior at Sherman County High School. He was the quarterback on 
the Sherman High varsity football team and was first team, all conference 
selection for baseball. 
      He enjoyed hanging with his friends and his music. 
      He is survived by his parents, Jon and Julie Simantel, Wasco; his 
sisters, Amanda Lynn Simantel, Coos Bay; Maggie Jean Simantel and Annie Mae 
Simantel, both of Wasco; grandparents, Sharon and Roland Simantel, Wasco; D.K. 
and Betty Smith, Hood River and great-grandmother, Agnes “Nannier” Morison, 
Tigard. 
      Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at 
Sherman High School with Pastor Bob Stone and Pastor Jerry Krewson officiating 
with dinner following. 
      Committal services will be at 6 p.m. at Wasco Sunrise Cemetery. Spencer, 
Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. 
      Memorials may be made to the Michael Jon Simantel Scholarship Fund, in 
care of Sherman County High School.
