She was born Feb. 28, 1905, in La Farge, Wisc., the oldest child to Oscar and Lottie Belle (Thomas) Shear. She was raised and attended schools in La Farge. She married Frederick Lewis Shird on Nov. 17, 1920, in La Farge. They moved to Portland in Sept. 1946, living in the Gresham area for 30 years. In 1999, she moved to Wamic and then to The Dalles due to health reasons. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Gresham and enjoyed painting. She is survived by daughters, Meretta and her husband, Dorman Butcher, Wamic; Shirley and her husband, Paul Dedie, Tomah, Wisc.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie McAllister and her husband, Dave, La Center, Wash.; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a great-great-great granddaughter; and her half-sister, Alice Olson, Minn. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Interment of cremains will be held at Forest Lawn in Gresham.
