Surnames: Sheldrake, Phillips, Kirk John Wilbur Sheldrake, 65, a resident of Silverton (Oregon), died on April 18, 2003. He was born November 26, 1937, in Hood River (Oregon). He graduated from Wy'east High School in 1955 and from Oregon State University in 1959. He met Barbara Phillips that same year and they were married July 1960. He joined the National Guard and served for six years being discharged as a staff sergeant. He also began working for the Oregon Department of Transportation during his college years and continued full time in construction and maintenance before retiring in 1994. They lived in many cities in Oregon. They moved to Silverton in 1996. He enjoyed model railroads and trains, mountain climbing, stamp collecting, vintage Mustang cars and traveling abroad. He was a lifetime member of the OSU (Oregon State University) Alumni Association and was a member of the W.E.. VP Homeowners Association. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, Silverton; three sons, J.Dean, and Scott P., both of Salem (Oregon); and Jay P., Eugene (Oregon); his mother, Lois Sheldrake, Corvalis (Oregon); two brothers, Arlen L. Sheldrake and Roger H. Sheldrake, both of Portland; three grandchildren, Ashlie, Emily and Katelyn. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Kirk. Memorial services will be Friday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Salem. There will be military services by the National Guard. Private interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles. Memorials may be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice, 2700 Market Street, NE, Salem, Oregon 97301-1641. Unger Funeral Chapel of Silverton is in care of arrangements.
