The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 27, 1984
     Dorothy Genevieve Shank, 72, died at Mid-Columbia Medical Center, Dec. 
19.  She was a longtime resident of The Dalles.
     She was born June 19, 1912 in Vernonia.
     She taught elementary school for many years at Colonel Wright and at the 
old Whittier School.  She retired in the late 1960's.  She was active in the 
Home Extension Unit in The Dalles.
     Survivors include two brothers, Via Throop, Chiloquin, and Tom Throop, 
Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, May D. Hinton, Monument, and Rachael Stewart, 
John Day; and many nieces and nephews.
     Graveside services were Friday at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. 
Thornton Gapen officiating.
     Memorials may be made to the University of Oregon Science Center 
Foundation, P.O. Box 577, Portland.
