Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 21, 2006, 3:06 pm The Dalles Chronicle, March 7, 2006 Robert A. Sexton, 78, a former resident of The Dalles, died Feb. 28. He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Flint, Mich., to Alfred and Jessie (Kelly) Sexton. He was raised in Michigan and received a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during Korea. After discharge, he moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he began his career with J.H. Baxter and Co., which took him to The Dalles as tie plant manager for a period of time. He married Mary Goodwin House in 1978. He worked for J.H. Baxter for more than 30 years, retiring from the Eugene office in 1989. He and his wife moved to Sun River and then Phoenix, before coming to Keizer in 2003. He enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Mary, Keizer; daughters Deborah Layman, Portland, and Mary Bishop, Ridgefield, Wash.; son Robert D. Sexton, Eugene; stepsons Terry House, Eugene, Greg House, Woodinville, Wash., and Mark House, Tualatin; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, Wash.
