The Dalles Weekly Reminder, April 29, 1988
Jurgen "Ruty" Schroeder, a resident of The Dalles for the past 25 years, died 
at a local nursing home April 22.  He was 91.

Mr. Schroeder was born Feb. 26, 1897 at Petersdorf, Germany.  When he was 
eight years old, his family emigrated to New Liberty, Iowa where his father 
started a farm.

He moved to Oregon in 1914, and lived in the Hood River area for a number of 
years, where he and his wife owned and operated a store.  The Schroeders had a 
famous rose garden while living in Hood River.

Mr. Schroeder had no known survivors.  His wife, Ora May, preceded him in 
death in 1972.

Graveside funeral services were held at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery.  
Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
