Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:05 am The Dalles Chronicle, October 3, 2005 Bernard “Bud” Joseph Sandoz, 79, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Friday, Sept. 30, 2005. He was born May 5, 1926, in The Dalles, the third of four children to Julius Edward and Anna Marie (Kaseberger) Sandoz. He grew up on Mill Creek Road, graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1944 and later graduated from the University of Oregon. He served in the Army during World War II, and then worked in Washington, DC, for several years before returning to The Dalles. He worked as an accountant for Rooper, Onstott and Broehl, CPA for many years. He was active in various community organizations, as he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and played with the musical group regularly at church. He was also a member of Cascade Singers and the Symphonetta orchestra, and volunteered with Hospice, Old St. Peter’s Landmark and the local museums. He spent much time maintaining his flowers and gardens. He was an avid reader and in his later years wrote many stories about his adventures throughout his life. He is survived by his brother, Charles and his wife, Goldie Sandoz, The Dalles; his sister, Sr. Helen Sandoz, SNJM, Portland; nieces, Mary Ann Leighton, Cook, Wash., and Linda Wasson, Hillsboro; nephews, Dan Sandoz, Charles Lee Sandoz, and Michael Sandoz, The Dalles; James Sandoz Jr. and Vincent Sandoz, Portland; numerous great nieces, great nephews, friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jim” Sandoz. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from 2 p.m. through the Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at The Dalles St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Unger as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle St., The Dalles, OR 97058.
