Ruzic, 79, a resident of Astoria and a former resident of Maupin, died in Astoria on July 20, 2005. He was born April 19, 1926 in Gaston to James V. Ruzic and Leta M. (Harris) Ruzic. He grew up in Maupin and enlisted in the Navy his junior year of high school. He served one year on the U.S.S. Catskill and was discharged in May of 1946 in Bremerton, Wash. He married Betty Dyball in May 1946 and had two daughters, Linda, who preceded him in death, and Hazel, who lives in Charlotte, N.C. with her husband; John. He went to work for the United Line Builders, which merged with Pacific Power and Light. During the course of his career he lived in Prineville, Yakima, The Dalles, Hood River and Astoria, where in 1983 he retired as a district line foreman after 38˝ years of service. Shortly after his retirement that year he went to work for IBEW Local 125, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the IBEW Union for 59 years.In April 1995 he married Faye Bedortha. He was past commander of The Dalles American Legion Post 19 as well as serving as commander three times for the Astoria American Legion Clatsop Post 12. He was an avid fisherman and hunter as well as a great cook. Survivors include his wife, Faye, Astoria; and a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and John Lund, Charlotte, N.C. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Ruzic, in 1978, and a brother, Dean Ruzic. Memorial services will be held at the American Legion, Clatsop Post 12, Saturday, July 30, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, Clatsop Post 12, 1132 Exchange St., Astoria, OR 97103 or a charity of the donor’s choice. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
